New research is showing that the problem in Multiple Sclerosis comes from oxidative damage to the brain and the nerves.  Free radicals react to damage individual cells.

Probably the most important thing a person with MS can do for themselves is to take therapeutic doses of vitamin D.  Some recommendations go as high as 5,000 IU per day.

There is also evidence to show that increasing the consumption of antioxidants such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, folic acid, and vitamin B-12 improve the outlook for a person with MS.

There is evidence that testosterone can help men with MS.

Electromagnetic stimulation has been shown to help.

Melatonin also has benefits.

For some people, diet drinks can cause MS.  If a person stops consuming aspartame for
a month it may go away.
