Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s Disease has been poorly understood in the past.  But new research is showing that the problem comes from oxidative damage to the brain and the nerves.  Free radicals react to damage individual cells.  Excess iron and maybe excess copper may make the problem worse.

There is evidence to show that increasing the consumption of antioxidants such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, folic acid, and even vitamins B-2 and B-3 improve the outlook for a person with Parkinson’s.  There is evidence that CoQ-10 and melatonin are also of benefit. Melatonin seems to be of value if there is pesticide poisoning as well.

Research also shows that increased amounts of GABA, a neuropeptide that exerts a calming effect, may supplement or even replace, traditional treatments.  Some people take over-the-counter GABA supplements for anger and excitability.  There has been no research to show if these supplements would help Parkingson's.

Additionally, there is strong evidence that the mind can influence Parkinson’s.  Two studies showed that patients’ conditions improved when they thought they were being given effective treatments, even though the treatments had no medical significance.

This is good news, because it means that with hypnosis, a person can have a better life.  By focusing the power of the mind, symptoms can be lessened.  And hypnosis has no side effects.
